College application essay

After years of studying and making projects, you have finally graduated from high school. And your next plan would be, of course, college.
After high school, a lot of students are surely in a quandary as to where they would study to earn the college degree that they want. Others would enroll in a school, college or university that their parents choose basing on the family’s financial capabilities. Obviously, those parents who earn less would send their children to a public school or to colleges with much cheaper tuition. However, other parents would prefer the best school for their children, regardless of how much they would pay in school fees.
But regardless of where you would enroll, it is necessary that you submit a college application essay to the school you are eyeing to join.
A college application essay is an article about yourself, your interests, experiences, values, leadership skills, strengths, personal views, or anything that could help you land a seat in the university or school you wish to enroll. It could also include the purpose why you want to study in that school.
Sometimes, it is hard to start writing an essay, especially if it is about yourself. But these tips could help you come up with a good college application essay:
- Before writing, think of a good topic that would serve as the main idea of your essay.
- If you find it hard to think of a certain topic, assess yourself. You may describe your character (the kind of character that your friends or family members agree on), your most admirable traits, your accomplishments, or any particular experience that you think had made some significant improvements in your personal views or principles.
- After self-assessment, pick out one particular area that you think could best describe yourself. One example would be an unforgettable experience. In writing about your experience, there is a need for you to describe that experience, how significant that experience is to your life. Does that experience affecte you? In what way? Does that experience changed you? Your views or outlook in life? By writing about that experience, you appear to be honest about how you had dealt with life, how you responded and how you made yourself open to possible change, which is very important in your college life.
- Make a draft about that particular topic (or experience, as an example). Include the reasons why you choose that school and enumerate the things that you could contribute to the school.
- Present the draft to your friends or family members for comments.
- Make final revisions and submit to the school.
Making a college application essay is just like selling yourself. The better you write the essay, the more chances you have of being accepted in that particular school.
Some students find it difficult to write a college application essay. But if you know yourself better, this is not really a tough task because it is you who knows yourself more than any other person.
